Kindergarten enrolments

Preparing your child for starting school in 2026

Your child's enrolment into school marks the beginning of an exciting journey of learning, growth and new experiences. We are thrilled to have you join our Eastwood Heights Public School community.

We understand that starting school is a significant change for your child and your family. Please see the information below about how we aim to support them in getting ready for a successful start in 2026.

When to start school

Your child can start kindergarten at the beginning of the school year if they turn five on or before 31 July in that year. By law, all children must be enrolled in school by their sixth birthday. It is an individual decision when your child starts school, and you may wish to speak to your child’s Early Childhood Educators or our school to help with this decision.

School tours

We are hosting school tours for children and their families to explore our school and learn about all the exciting opportunities we have to offer.

Stories and songs in our school library

Come and join Mrs Sparrow, our Kindergarten Assistant Principal, for stories and songs in the school library. This is an opportunity for your child to meet other friends and become familiar with our school.

Orientation and parent information sessions

Once enrolled, your child will participate in our 'Kindy School' sessions that allow for them to experience the kindergarten learning spaces. Students are encouraged to attend all sessions. During these times, parents and carers will be provided with important information about our school. Sessions are at 10.30am-11.30am on Tuesday 28 October, Tuesday 4 November and Tuesday 11 November. More details will be shared with you closer to the time.

Book an interview

Once you have completed the enrolment, we encourage you to book a 30-minute interview with the principal and/or a member of our school executive staff. This is an opportunity for us to learn more about your child and for you to discover more about our school.

Enrolment documentation

As part of the enrolment process, you will receive correspondence from our administration team regarding required documentation. This will include information about any known health conditions or additional learning needs, as part of us being prepared.

For more information on preparing for school, refer to the NSW Department of Education’s 'Getting Ready for Primary School' brochure.

Best Start kindergarten assesment

The best start assesment is a tool to help teachers assess your child's skills as they enter school, and to tailor teaching to their individual needs. Teachers will sit with your child when they start school to assess your child's literacy and numeracy skills so that they can develop an appropriate teaching program that caters for your child.

We look forward to working together with you to ensure a successful start for your child.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school office on (02) 9876 4732 or eastwoodht-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au .
