Wakakirri is a nationwide initiative for Australian schools that provides a platform for students to express their thoughts, ideas, and aspirations through the art of storytelling and dance. Inspired by the belief that great stories can inspire change, Wakakirri is designed to promote student engagement and well-being in schools through the creation and performance of captivating Story-Dances.
Held in term 3, this grand celebration showcases the Story-Dances from schools all across the country. With prestigious theatres in major cities and carefully selected regional areas serving as our venues, we ensure that no school is left behind. Even those in remote and regional areas can participate through our innovative Wakakirri Video platform.
What a performance! 2024
Congratulations to our 76 EHPS Wakakirri K-6 students and 6 EHPS Wakakirri staff members on a spectacular performance at Parramatta Riverside Theatre on Tuesday 20 August! This year the theme was Belonging and our K-6 students performed an inspiring story-dance to ‘The Wild Robot’. This story-dance centred on the vivid experiences of a robot named ‘Roz’, who crashes onto an island. Roz learns to survive and earn the trust of the island’s animals. She learns acceptance, friendship and what it means to care about others and gain a sense of belonging.
Our public speakers on the night, Jessica R, Lily-Eve E and Evelyn S were invited on stage after the performance to talk about the item. They were very well-prepared and absolutely charmed the audience with their natural stage presence and responses that came straight from the heart!
The exciting news doesn’t end there! We have recently received the thrilling news that our performance has proceeded to the next stage and we have made it to the Finals! This means that the Wakikirri students will be performing their wonderful item again on Thursday 19 September at the Awards Showcase night. We have also received a State Award and on this night, we will find out which State Award our school has received. Who knows? Maybe we have a chance at being nominated for a National Award? This is an outstanding achievement for Eastwood Heights Public School and we would like to congratulate all Wakikirri students and staff members on their wonderful results. Their dedication and commitment to the arts is inspiring and we wish them all the best of luck in the Finals!
