Religion and ethics

NSW schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics. Approved providers deliver these, where available.

Write to the school if you wish to withdraw your child from special religious education, sometimes known as scripture. Special education in ethics is an option for your primary-age child if you withdraw them from special religious education. For more information, visit Religion and ethics.

At Eastwood Heights Public School, SRE (Special Religious Education, also called 'Scripture') and SEE (Special Education in Ethics) is delivered on the following times for different years:

Wednesday 10:00 - 10:30 am for K, 1 and 2 students and
Wednesday 10:35 - 11:05am for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 students.

On enrolment parents/carers will be given the SRE and SEE participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, notification of changes to a child's enrolment in SRE/SEE should be given in writing to the school office.

Our Classes

The following classes are offered at Eastwood Heights Public School:

Anglican Christian SRE
Catholic SRE
Islamic SRE
Special Education in Ethics (SEE)

Non-Scripture

During the time that SRE/SEE classes are being held, students not attending any of the available classes will be located in a separate space and supervised by Eastwood Heights staff. They will participate in meaningful activities (this could include reading, private study or completing homework).

About Our Providers

Anglican Christian SRE is provided by Anglican teachers who are authorised and trained by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, who are an approved SRE provider. Teachers provide education in Christian beliefs and practices for children of families from various Christian denominations and churches. The SRE curriculum used in this school is produced by Christian Education Publications and is approved by the SRE provider. The curriculum explores the good news about Jesus Christ found in the Bible and the depth of God’s love for people. Each lesson has been developed to be taught in an age-appropriate manner. Lessons include activities which make the lessons fun and inclusive for children and young people, and also give them the opportunity to critically explore and deepen their faith, pray, and reflect. Research has shown that SRE contributes to students’ wholistic education as it nurtures their spiritual wellbeing. For more information and SRE curriculum used in this school visit whysre.com.au

Catholic SRE is provided by the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney and coordinated by Madeline Pizzuti. Information about the curriculum used can be found at this website.

Islamic SRE is coordinated by Ebstesam and the curriculum can be found here:  https://www.isre.org.au/scope-k-6/.

You may also contact the current EHPS Ethics Coordinator, Natalie Grainger. The Primary Ethics curriculum is taught by a dedicated team of volunteers - parents, grandparents and members of the local community. New teachers are always needed, and parents are encouraged to contact Natalie via the school office if they would like more information about becoming a Primary Ethics teacher at EHPS.
