Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.

At Eastwood Heights Public School, SRE (Special Religious Education, also called 'Scripture') and SEE (Special Education in Ethics) is delivered at the following times:

Wednesday 10:00 - 10:30 am for K, 1 and 2 students and
Wednesday 10:35 - 11:05am for Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 students.

The following classes are offered at Eastwood Heights Public School:

Anglican Christian SRE
Catholic SRE
Islamic SRE
Special Education in Ethics (SEE)

During the time that SRE/SEE classes are being held, students not attending any of the available classes will be located in a separate space and supervised by Eastwood Heights staff. They will participate in meaningful activities (this could include reading, drawing or other activities).

About Our Providers

Anglican Christian SRE is provided by Anglican teachers who are authorised and trained by the Anglican Diocese of Sydney, who are an approved SRE provider. Teachers provide education in Christian beliefs and practices for children of families from various Christian denominations and churches. The SRE curriculum used in this school is produced by Christian Education Publications and is approved by the SRE provider. The curriculum explores the good news about Jesus Christ found in the Bible and the depth of God’s love for people. Each lesson has been developed to be taught in an age-appropriate manner. Lessons include activities which make the lessons fun and inclusive for children and young people, and also give them the opportunity to critically explore and deepen their faith, pray, and reflect. Research has shown that SRE contributes to students’ wholistic education as it nurtures their spiritual wellbeing. For more information and SRE curriculum used in this school visit whysre.com.au

Catholic SRE is provided by the Catholic Archdiocese of Sydney. Information about Catholic SRE, including the authorised curriculum scope and sequence, can be found at this website.

Islamic SRE is provided by the Islamic Council of NSW and the curriculum can be found here:  https://www.isre.org.au/

Special Education in Ethics (SEE) is provided by Primary Ethics. You can find out more information on the curriculum at: https://primaryethics.com.au/curriculum/

The Primary Ethics curriculum is taught by a dedicated team of volunteers - parents, grandparents and members of the local community. New teachers are always needed, and parents are encouraged to contact Primary Ethics if they would like more information about becoming a Primary Ethics teacher at EHPS.
